TRAUMATIC INCIDENT REDUCTION
 (TIR)

Have you been affected by unresolved emotional hurts brought on by abusive or disturbing events? If so, TIR may offer you considerable relief and benefits.

Key points about TIR are that it ...

  • is a structured and person-centered way to resolve any degree of trauma, from the mildest (day to day hurts) to the most intense (PTSD).
  • handles many mental and emotional difficulties (such as depression, anxiety, phobias, anger, and guilt) whose cause you may not be aware of.
  • can help you improve sooner and more thoroughly than other therapy approaches.
  • often results in a person feeling much better and lighter toward the end of a session than they did at the beginning.

TIR is included in SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices.

I am a Certified TIR Facilitator.

TIR is a therapy to reduce or eliminate the mental, emotional, and even bodily pain resulting from past traumatic incidents.

You (the viewer or client) are guided by me (the facilitator or therapist) to safely review the original incident through a particular format, and to release the confusion and distress that created and maintained the trauma (unhealed pain).

TIR is therapy but isn’t counseling. It’s different from counseling because it’s not conversational. During TIR, the facilitator doesn’t offer you any advice, suggestions, or interpretations. Instead, you are provided with a special procedure and space which allows your mind to heal itself.

In TIR, the painful energy that makes some past incidents traumatic is called charge. The purpose of TIR is to reduce or release this charge.

Traumatic incidents range from the mild (such as a comment that confused you or hurt your feelings) to the severe (such as participating in combat, being in an accident, or undergoing a threatening or violent situation).

But it’s important to note that what is “traumatic” can be different for different people. Sometimes what is commonly considered “minor” can have long-term debilitating effects and what is “major” can leave little to no negative trace — these differences sometimes also occur within the same person.
TIR tends to work more quickly and effectively than counseling because its elegantly simple design allows you to view, contact, and resolve — in an uninterrupted and uncluttered process — whatever has been causing you lingering pain.

After a TIR session, you will often feel relief and understanding, as though a heavy and hurtful weight was removed, which, in fact, is the discharge of negative traumatic energy (charge).

These are the main techniques used in TIR:

Basic TIR  :  When you are aware of the event that traumatized you, Basic TIR is used.

Thematic TIR  :  When you have a lingering unwanted emotional state (anxiety, depression, phobia, anger, panic, jealousy, obsessive-compulsive disorder) — or a chronic unwanted physical state (pressure, strange bodily sensations, tingling, aches) that is unaccounted-for medically — and don’t know what caused it, Thematic TIR is used.

Future TIR  :  When you are affected by future concerns (some event or situation that hasn’t occurred yet), Future TIR is used.

Unblocking  :  Addresses relationships and general situations that are emotionally painful, confusing, or disturbing.

Recall Listing  :  Helps you reconnect with often-neglected positives (accomplishments, good times, loving relationships, personal abilities) from your past, and improves memory.
